Q: Okay, Nancy, so we’re going to start out by having you introduce yourself. Tell us your first name and where you’re from.
A: My name is Nancy Gara, and I am from Houston, Texas.
Q: So, Nancy, what was going on that you needed an oral surgeon?
A: I actually came in for a different problem. I had something unusual going on in my mouth that my dentist wanted to have checked by an oral surgeon. So when I came to see him, he relieved my fears and told me I had nothing to worry about but that I could certainly use his expertise in improving my smile because at that point, I needed to have either dental implants or a bridge done, and I wasn’t looking forward to a bridge or dentures or something that would create my feeling old and yucky and having to put something in and replace it at night. And he told me I was too elegant to have to deal with dentures, so he charmed me into having dental implants.
Q: Wonderful. So, how were you feeling when you first came in?
A: I was a little nervous. I was really pretty anxious and wasn’t sure that this was something I really wanted to go through with, but they made me feel so comfortable, and Marissa took my hand and said, “We’re going to be right here with you, and you’re going to be great. Everything’s going to go smoothly, and you’ll be so happy that you did it.” And all that was true.
Q: Wonderful. So, you had a good experience with the staff?
A: I had a wonderful experience with the staff. They’re an amazing staff. They’re warm and lovely and kind, and there very attentive to your needs. They want to make sure that you’re comfortable and that you have a really good experience.
Q: And how was your experience with Dr. Iero?
A: He is the best. He’s also very funny, very charming, and he’s hilarious. He’s really kind. For some reason, I got a notification on my Facebook that it was his birthday, and he’s the kind of guy that I felt comfortable sending him a Jib Jab — a little cartoon. I got his picture from his website, and I just put it in place, and he thought it was so hilarious that he said, “I showed it to my whole family and the staff, but today’s not my birthday.” And then I was a little bit embarrassed, but he’s really sweet. He’s very funny. I’m repeating myself about that, but he’s so smart. I know he’s so well thought of in the dental community because I had a different oral surgeon, and even he told me, “You should take this to Dr. Iero. He’s the best. He’s really the best at doing the procedures that you need, and you couldn’t be in better hands than to be with him.”
Q: Awesome. Perfect. So, how was your procedure compared to what you were expecting? Was it better? Was it worse?
A: It was more involved. It was actually more involved than I was expecting. My recovery time was a little bit longer than I anticipated. There was a little more pain than I anticipated, but he took care of it. He was very available. I could call him or even text him at any time, and he would respond right away. He was right there when I needed different medication or more medication. If I needed more pain meds, he took care of me. So, I didn’t have to worry about making phone calls, trying to get through to him. He gave me his personal phone number, so it was easy to communicate.
Q: That’s wonderful. I know you have a few implants that are fully restored and a few that are on their way. How do the ones that are fully restored feel?
A: They feel great. It’s a great fit. It’s just like having your natural teeth.
Q: Perfect. Would you say that you recommend Bellaire Facial Surgery Center?
A: I highly recommend Bellaire Facial Center.
Q: Wonderful, okay. Is there anything else you want to add that I haven’t asked you about yet?
A: No . . . I know I just keep talking about how nice he is or how funny he is, and then the one point about my other oral surgeon talking about how smart he is, but he’s really very good. My daughter needs to have a septoplasty and some more involved surgery, and this is where I want to bring her and have it, because I really have great confidence in him. I used to be a nurse, and you can just tell when someone is really great in the medical field at what they do.
