When you have missing or damaged teeth, we can replace them and restore your smile with dental implants in Bellaire, TX. The unique three-part design allows your new teeth to look and function exactly like natural teeth. You can contact our office to schedule a consultation, during which our doctor can discuss the details of tooth replacement with you.
What are dental implants?
When they are attached, the three parts of a dental implant closely resemble a natural tooth. Each part serves its own purpose:
- The titanium post, which replaces the natural tooth root and provides the foundation need to support the other two pieces of the restoration.
- The metal abutment, which is necessary to connect the post to the prosthetic replacement.
- The prosthetic crown, which is specially designed to look and function exactly like your natural teeth.
What are the benefits?
While there are many options available for replacing teeth, no other solution offers the same number of benefits as dental implants. Most other restorations provide patients with improved smiles but do little to preserve oral health and function. With dental implants, however, it’s common to experience all of the following advantages:
- Jaw bone preservation
- Easy care routine
- Permanence and stability
- Versatility in treatments
- Increased confidence
- Improved chewing ability
All these benefits are made possible because of their unique design. The titanium post provides the stimulation needed to prevent the jaw bone from deteriorating and makes it possible for you to eat all the foods you love easily. Its integration in the jaw also allows the restoration to last a lifetime. When you visit our Bellaire, TX, office for your consultation, we can discuss all the benefits in more detail.
The Procedure
One of the many advantages of choosing dental implants is their versatility, meaning they can be used in a variety of procedures. Your treatment will depend on your specific condition and will be specially developed to meet your individual needs. The consultation appointment is an important first step in the treatment process because it allows your doctor to examine your condition, review your health history, and get to know you so he can determine the best course of treatment.
After taking X-rays or 3D scans, discussing your options for anesthesia, and making sure you understand every aspect of treatment — including post-operative care — we will schedule your surgical appointment. We schedule the procedure on a separate date so that you have time in between appointments to review your pre- and post-operative instructions, ask questions, and prepare for treatment.
At the surgical appointment, Dr. Iero will administer your chosen form of anesthesia. Once the sedation has taken effect, he will carefully place the titanium post into the empty tooth socket. Then, he will use stitch up your gums to heal. In some cases, he may attach the metal abutment during this procedure, which you may feel protruding during recovery; however, more often, he will attach this piece of the restoration later on.
Over the next few months, your surgical site will heal, and your restorative dentist will create your custom prosthetic crown (in cases of multiple tooth replacement, you may receive an implant-supported bridge or permanent denture). Once your post has appropriately integrated with your jaw, you will return to the office so we can place the abutment and prosthesis. When the restoration is complete, you can immediately begin smiling with confidence.
