Otoplasty, more commonly known as ear surgery, can be used to treat misshapen or disproportionate ears or ears that suffer from a defect in their structure. Through ear surgery, Dr. Iero can correct the shape, size, and proportion of the ears to achieve a more balanced and desirable appearance. Whether you have suffered an ear injury that caused your ear(s) to be misshapen or you have grown up unhappy with the appearance of your ears, we encourage you to contact our Bellaire, TX, office about otoplasty.
Why otoplasty?
It’s not uncommon for patients with any ear abnormality to suffer from a lack of self-esteem. Otoplasty is a common and simple procedure that can create a more natural appearance. By altering the shape of the ears and their proportion to the face, Dr. Iero can restore balance to the face, which will greatly benefit the appearance, resulting in a natural boost of confidence. Common conditions that can be treated with otoplasty include
- Macrotia, a condition in which the ears are too large for the face
- Protruding ears (ears that stick out too far from the side of the head)
- Misshapen ears resulting from ear injury or a previous surgery
Otoplasty Procedure
Most ear surgeries involve the use of either IV or general anesthesia to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the procedure. Once your sedation has taken effect, Dr. Iero will make small incisions on the back surface of the ear and either remove cartilage from the ear or fold cartilage back. Doing so will improve the shape and size of the ears and create a more balanced facial appearance. It usually takes about two to three weeks for the incisions to heal and any post-operative bruising to fade. Dr. Iero will discuss any other post-operative care and expectations with you at your consultation appointment.
