The projection of your chin (how far it juts out) can have a significant impact on your appearance, especially your facial profile. When your chin is recessed — it doesn’t jut out but rather maintains a sunken appearance — it’s called a weak chin. Whether you have a weak chin or a chin that protrudes too far, our office in Bellaire, TX, offers genioplasty. More commonly known as chin surgery, Dr. Iero can perform a genioplasty to correct the projection of your chin and improve your appearance.
What is genioplasty?
The term genioplasty refers to any type of surgery on the chin. The type you need will depend on your specific condition. Dr. Iero will discuss these options with you at your consultation appointment after he has examined your chin and determined the most suitable treatment for your needs. The most common chin procedures include
- Chin Augmentation. If you have a receding chin, a chin augmentation procedure can be performed. By making a small incision inside the lower lip or under the chin, Dr. Iero can place implants (usually made of silicone). These implants will give your chin a fuller and less recessed appearance, resulting in a more balanced facial appearance.
- Chin Reduction/Repositioning. When you have a protruding chin, Dr. Iero can reduce the appearance by removing excess bone. Similar to chin augmentation, Dr. Iero will make a small incision inside the lower lip or under the chin. Rather than place implants, Dr. Iero will reshape the chin and remove bone, then reposition the tip of the chin to be more in line with the rest of the facial features.
